I’m Still a Geek

I’m in my early 30’s, and despite working full-time, being a full-time husband, a full-time dad and a part-time student… I’m still a geek. Late at night I watch the baby so that I can continue my Netflix marathons of DC and Marvel movies and TV series. I recently finished every season of Supergirl, and now I’m currently binging on The Flash.

Every so often I’m asked what my favorite sports teams are. I gotta admit… I’ve just never been that interested in any sports. But if you were to ask me about the evolution of Klingons or how many times the crew of Voyager actually made it back to Earth, I’m your man. Likewise, I could tell you how long it takes to venture from Caprica to Earth while Cylons are on your tail.

Now mind you, I’m a very professional businessman working in the financial industry… but I won’t lie: if anyone did a search of my desk drawers, they’d find a plethora of geeky memorabilia. In fact, I *may* have asked my wife to make me some ties for Christmas that have various symbols embroidered on them…

But I digress. Like many of you, I used to be a hard-core reader. I read Lord of the Rings from cover to cover in less than a week. I use to stay up all night binge-reading each book in the Harry Potter Series. And yes, I *may* have read all four books in the Twilight Saga too…

But it pains me that I don’t have the kind of time to read like I used to. I have hundreds of unread books on my Kindle, and bins of books in my basement that I swore to myself I’d read someday. It was frustrating that I couldn’t seem to find the time to read when I was so passionate about it. In fact, I’m so much of a geek that I constructed my own fictional Universe and became a series author.

And this brings me to the main purpose of my article. I can’t express how grateful I am for the Audible Listener program. I spend long hours of my life stuck in traffic, and I can’t exactly binge-watch The Flash while I’m driving. But listening to Audiobooks has changed my life. I can finally catch up on books I’ve been meaning to read for years! The first 30 days are free, and then it’s only $14.95 monthly thereafter. It’s SO worth It! Especially during those obnoxious commutes. This YouTube video sums it all up quite nicely:

So, please go do me a solid and grab your 30-day free Audible Listener membership. You can listen to the first book in my Universe for free, which is performed by the very talented Andrea Emmes (bestselling narrator of Little Women by Louisa May Alcott)!
